Mr. Rodda

How old are you?
I am 39 years old.

Where are you from, where did you grow up?
I am from Great Britain. I was born and grew up in a city called Exeter. It is in the county of Devon, in the south-west of England.

Did you want to be a teacher since childhood?
As a child I wanted to be an astronaut. The first British woman to go into space once came and gave a talk at my school, which was fascinating and inspiring. It was not until some years later, when I got the chance to teach during my studies that I knew teaching was what I wanted to do.

What do you do in your free time?
In my free time I enjoy running. I especially like the challenge of long distance races such as marathons and ultramarathons.

What are your subjects?
At the moment I just teach English. My other subject is Art, and I have a background in Philosophy too.

Why the Luisen-Gymnasium?
I first visited the Luisen-Gymnasium a few years ago, after I was invited to see the results of an architecture project done by an 11th grade class. The school and the pupils left a very positive impression on me. So I was delighted when the opportunity arose to come and teach here.

Do you like the Students?
Yes. I find the students are motivated to learn, and that makes teaching fun. I especially like that so many are informed about what is happening in the wider world around them. It makes for interesting discussions.

What do you think of the school technology (Smartboards etc.)?
The availability of Smartboards throughout the school, as well as other media resources, offers the students and I a good variety of learning tools. I am also a fan of the ‚old school‘ blackboard too. So, for me, having a blend of both is great.

Thanks for the great Interview!
